1. Eat Right Station certification - 

  • Indian Railways’ Chandigarh Railway Station awarded 5-Star ‘Eat Right Station’ certification by FSSAI
  • Chandigarh Railway Station becomes the fifth Railway station in India to get this recognition. 
  • The other railway stations with this certification include Anand Vihar Terminal Railway Station; (Delhi), Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus; (Mumbai), Mumbai Central Railway Station; (Mumbai) and Vadodara Railway Station.

2. Eastern Economic Forum

Recently Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a video address during the plenary session of the 6th Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) held in Vladivostok, Russia. 

About the ‘EEF’:

  • The EEF was established by President of Russia Vladimir Putin in 2015.
  • It takes place each year in Vladivostok, Russia.
  • Over the years, it has emerged as an international platform for discussing the strategy for developing political, economic, and cultural ties between Russia and the Asia Pacific.

Participants:

The Forum business program includes a number of business dialogues with leading partner countries in the Asia-Pacific region, and with ASEAN, a key integration organization of dynamically developing nations in Southeast Asia.

3. Inspiration4

  • Entrepreneur Elon Musk’s SpaceX recently announced that ‘Inspiration4’, its first all-civilian, non-governmental spaceflight, is on track for launch on September 15.
  • It will take a group of four private citizens into space for three days.
  • All four seats on the spacecraft have been purchased by US billionaire Jared Isaacman, founder of the fintech company Shift4 Payments.

What is Inspiration4?

  • The mission involves circling the Earth for three days, and then splashing down into the Atlantic Ocean.
  • Inspiration4 will orbit the Earth at 575km, higher than the International Space Station (408km) and the Hubble space telescope (547km).
4. Greece creates a Ministry to deal with climate crisis:

  • Greece government has created a new Ministry to address the impact of climate change.
  • This is done in the wake of massive wildfires that burned more than 1,000 square kilometers of forest on the island of Evia and in southern Greece.
  • The Ministry will look into firefighting, disaster relief, and policies to adapt to rising temperatures resulting from climate change.

5. India's first conservation reserve for Dugong - 

  • The State government of Tamilnadu declared 500 sq. km of the biodiversity-rich waters in the Palk Bay, on the southeast coast of Tamil Nadu, as India’s first dugong conservation reserve.

Dugong is also known as sea cow, which is an endangered marine mammal that is facing extinction due to water pollution, habitat loss, and loss of seagrass. 

6. IMF increased India's SDR quota -

IMF has increased India's SDR quota to 12.57 billion.

SDR - 

  • SDR is neither a currency nor a claim on the IMF. Rather, it is a potential claim on the freely usable currencies of IMF members. SDRs can be exchanged for these currencies.
  • The SDR serves as the unit of account of the IMF and some other international organizations.
  • The currency value of the SDR is determined by summing the values in U.S. dollars, based on market exchange rates, of a SDR basket of currencies.
  • The SDR basket of currencies includes the U.S. dollar, Euro, Japanese yen, pound sterling and the Chinese renminbi
